‘Spurious liquor from Odisha may be behind Supebeda kidney ailments’

nAdmitting that spurious liquor is being smuggled from neighbouring Odisha to the state’s Gariaband region, including Supebeda, Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma on Wednesday said it is  suspected that the liquor might be a cause for the kidney ailments in Supebeda region.   

He was addressing a function here at Mainpur to mark the occasion of local festival ‘Maatar’.

Expressing apprehension over the smuggling of liquors, Lakhma said it was an urgent need to check the same. “I have given necessary instructions to the concerned officials regarding the same,” he added.

Lakhma further also expressed his annoyance that due to higher minimum support price of paddy crop in the state in compare to neighbouring states, paddy is also being smuggled when the state procures it.

“As the procurement of paddy crop is going to   commence from November 15, I have instructed the superintendent of police of the district to have a check on it”, he further added.
