The Bharatiya Bikash Parishad on Sunday once again demanded that the Ganjam district Collector’s office and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) be shifted from Chhatrpur to Brahmapur soon in the interest of people of the district.
“It has been 30 years since former Minister late Brundaban Nayak placed the demand first. We have also submitted memorandums twice to the Chief Minister, the Revenue Minister and the Chief Secretary in this regard. But no action has been taken yet,” said Parishad president Surnedra Panigrahi at a Press meet here.
He argued that while Bramhapur is the right location for running the Collectorate and the RTO office from different points of view, about 90 per cent people are facing difficulties in getting services from the Collectorate and the RTO office at Chhatrapur.
Panigrahi urged the district Collector to withdraw his proposal to construct a seven-storied building for the Collectorate at Chhatrpur at Rs 6 crore and, instead, write to the Government to build the proposed building in Brahmapur.
“If our demand is not fulfilled, locals will take to the streets,” demanded Parishad members.
Among others, Manav Adhikar Suraksha Manch convenor Abani Kumar Gaya, Sanjaya Narayan Dash, Dr Shiva Prasad Mishra, Rajendra Dalbehera, Madhu Sudan Sahoo, Gourishankar Mohanty, Bishnu Dev Moharana, Rabi Routray and Surya Narayan Das were present.
