‘Edu has undergone sea change’

Thursday, 31 October 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that today several big changes have taken place in the field of education. The biggest challenge facing us is that our education connects with the change, there is synergy between education and knowledge, the teachers are capable and they should work as social workers.

Nath was inaugurating the two-day Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) Conclave-2019 at Minto Hall on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said that whenever there is a change in any area, it has been criticized. Giving examples, he said that when former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi started a computer revolution for the 21st century India, he was opposed on the grounds that it would increase unemployment and that it is a useless attempt. Today we are witnessing that the revolution in IT sector has not only generated employment in a large scale among our youths but our IT personnel have made a name in the whole world. Nath said that we will have to connect with the change.

The Chief Minister said that today every sector including education has undergone a change in the world. In this era of change, our teachers need to be upgraded, otherwise we will not be able to educate our future generations according to the present time and future.

The Chief Minister said that it is very important to combine education and knowledge only then will the all-round development of our children be possible. He proposed the need for a complete change in Madhya Pradesh's education system and its quality. He said that our teachers should introspect on how to educate their future generations so that their future can be improved.

The Chief Minister called upon the teachers to fulfill their responsibility not in the form of a government job, but in the form of a social worker. He said that the government is committed to making the state a leading state in the quality of education. If we have to take strict steps for this, we will take it. Praising the STEAM education system, the Chief Minister said that this will enable complete personality development of our children.

School Education Minister Prabhuram Chaudhary said that STEAM education system not only makes science, technology, engineering, mathematics and arts studies interesting but also enables our children to meet future challenges.

Principal Secretary School Education Rashmi Arun Shami gave information on the basic concept of STEAM Education System, its importance and the outline of the conclave. Among those present on the occasion were Chief Secretary SR Mohanty, Chairman of Board of Secondary Education Saleena Singh, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of STEAM Education Georgette Yakman, Child Development and Education Professor Jayanti Tambe Roy of De Anza College, California USA, Founder of Story Triangle Foundation Aparna Atreya and others.
