‘Assembly adjourned sine die as Govt fears debates’

Saturday, 30 November 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The BJP on Friday pulled up the State Government for a premature closure of the State Assembly, saying the Government had no guts to discuss people’s problems in the House.

“Many important issues relating to people were to be discussed in the State Assembly. Premature closure of the Assembly is very disappointing and a betrayal of people. After failing to face problems of people, the State Government hatched a conspiracy for closure of the Assembly ahead of 17 days,” said BJP Legislature Party Leader Deputy Leader Bishnu Sethi at a Press meet here.

Sethi said his party had been raising people’s issues from day one. The BJD allied with the Congress and stopped a discussion on the suspected rape and murder of Jajpur PEO Smitarani Biswal raised by the BJP.

Sethi said important issues like irregularities in allotment of houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana, scarcity in drinking water, famers’ and farming problems, failures in health and education sectors, corruption at administration level and lack of safety of women would have been discussed if the House had run as per the schedule till December 19.

He slammed the Government for giving a clean chit to Tourism Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, who allegedly hosted visit of his two women guests at Hyderabad road show spending Government money.

Sethi said the BJP would raise the people’s issues on the roads and fight for their cause in coming days.
