Post election drubbing, the political circles are busy discussing the fate of coalition Government in Karnataka led by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. Even after hectic parley and confabulations, the JD(S) –Congress Government is reeling under the threat of decimation with many MLAs openly opposing the Government and coalition. The weakening of Congress high command due to face loss especially in Karnataka where the partners have won only two seats out of 28 has seriously damaged the existence of JD(S) and the Congress in Karnataka. The undercurrent of Modi wave which has swept the country has made both Congress and the JD(S) suffer a life loss is affecting the very existence of the Kumaraswamy Government which was thought as a platform for Opposition unity.
The one-year-old Government is reeling under heavy impact of the rejection and trauma is taking its toll. Even though the leaders of the Congress and JD(S) putting up a bold face by saying all is well has not gone well within the coalition. It’s not just chemistry also affecting the arithmetic with looming large operation lotus by the BJP.
Meeting after meeting by Congress Karnataka in-charge KC Venugopal, Siddaramaiah and other leaders has so far not able to assuage the rebellion within the party. The conspicuous absent of the seven legislators to the Congress Legislator Party on Wednesday is clear indication of the things in the Congress which is facing serious problems of decimation across the country.
Meanwhile, the former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday asserted that MLAs and Ministers in the ruling JD(S)-Congress coalition Government in the State are "united". Addressing a press conference, Siddaramaiah said, "The result of this Lok Sabha election will not have an impact on this Government. All our MLAs and Ministers are united. Ramesh Jarkiholi will not leave the party."
The JD(S)-Congress coalition, which is in power in the State, went through a rough patch during the campaigning of the recently concluded elections. Congress has 79 MLAs while Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) has 37 MLAs in the coalition Government holding power in the State. The BJP with 104 MLAs in 224 member house is waiting in the wings to for an order from the high command.
Tensions between the two parties benefitted the BJP which won 25 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka while both JD(S) and Congress had to content itself with just one seat each.
Kumaraswamy who is in Delhi attending PMs oath taking ceremony met Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to discuss the political situation in the state. Kumaraswamy and his family party JD(S) has seen a complete wash out in the elections has been very dramatic and working out plans to save his government. He had a political hotline with Rahul Gandhi and survived but the political drubbing has cut off the hotline and now he is facing the rebellion both in his party and Congress.
