TMC slams Nadda over ‘Bengal has jungle raj’ remark

Monday, 30 September 2019 | PNS | Kolkata

Hours after BJP acting president JP Nadda slammed the Mamata Banerjee Government for running a jungle raj in Bengal, senior Trinamool Congress leaders like Firhad Hakim hit him back saying it was Nadda who had come from jungle to Bengal which had a civilised Government.

Hakim, a senior Minister in Mamata Banerjee’s Cabinet, said “this man (Nadda) himself has come from the jungle — where unemployment rate is increasing, economy has nosedived and people are lynched — and that is why he sees jungle raj everywhere.”

It was “unfortunate that a senior leader like him can make such comments when Bengal has set a record in terms of developmental work and job creation.”

Nadda had come to Kolkata to perform Tarpan ceremony — offering sacred water normally to the spirits of dead ancestors — on the Mahalaya Day by offering sacred water to the BJP workers falling prey to TMC violence in Bengal.

After performing the religious act, he said “Bengal has jungle raj during the TMC rule,” adding the “goonda raj will soon come to an end in Bengal as the time of the TMC government is over. Mamata Banerjee is fast losing his political ground in Bengal.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister attacked the Centre for subverting federalism in India. She alleged that the way the Centre was passing laws unilaterally and without taking the Opposition parties into confidence amounted to defying the federal values of the Indian constitution.

She tweeted on Saturday which was observed as the International Day for Universal Access to Information “Our party strongly condemned the way in which important Bills including the amendments to the Right to Information Act, was passed in parliament, hurting federalism.”
