The DGPs conference 2019 will be held in Pune from December 6 to 8 where  a range of security issues will be discussed by the top police officers from the States and Central Police Organisations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the top police meet for the first time.

This conference is the first that comes after abrogation of Article 370 and re-organisation of erstwhile J&K State into two Union Territories and amendment in the SPG Act besides Ayodhya verdict. Weaning away radicalized youth from terror fold in J&K is a challenge and brainstorming on tackling the issue is likely to be undertaken during the event, sources said. 

Apart from issues like technological upgradation of police forces and tackling cyber crimes, the meet is also likely to firm up strategies to maintain security in J&K and counter Pakistan-sponsored terror and new tactics like arms dropping by Pakistani agencies in Indian territory through drones. The arms dropping by Pakistan in Punjab has come as a major concern as Islamabad aims to arm the Muslim populace of the Jammu region to foment trouble there amid tight security arrangements in the Kashmir Valley, they said.

Shah has also been seeking to curb corruption in the Central armed forces and enhance their professionalism.

Issues like radicalisation and de-radicalistion as also upgrading the security of vital installations both in the public and private sector are also likely to be taken up during the high level meet which attended by the chiefs of Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis wing besides National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. 

These besides, progress on the suggestions made in the earlier conferences will also be reviewed during the meet of the top police brass.
