With winters not far away, the Centre or Science and Environment (CSE) suggested 65 per cent cut in pollution levels to meet air quality standards. In its latest analysis on Delhi’s pollution, CSE has found that overall peak levels have reduced while number of days meeting Air Quality standard is increasing during summers and monsoon and winters.
Centre or Science and Environment (CSE) also mentioned that ‘winter smog episode’ is also getting fewer and the onset of winter pollution is also getting delayed. With this positive development to combat air pollution problem, Delhi is entering its next phase of action.
Giving credit to Comprehensive Clean Air action Plan and Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the pollution watch body concluded that there are early sign of stabilization and bend in pollution curve.
“Increased number of days in cleaner air quality index categories and change in the pattern of smog episode observed after the implementation of GRAP and action plans.”
Citing pollution database prepared on the basis of annual air quality submitted by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to the Parliament, in which three -year average of Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 levels during 2016-8 is 25 per cent lower than the 2011 -2014 baseline.
