Alleged Trinamool workers on Friday attacked the vehicle of Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and heckled him even as he tried to meet the public at the Lake Town area of northern Kolkata, sources said.
Ghosh who had recently started a public relation exercise under a scheme called “Chai pe Charcha,” meeting the people at various localities was allegedly heckled by a mob of TMC supporters who would not allow the senior saffron leader to hold such meetings in their area.
Ghosh who went to Lake Town along with his supporters was surrounded by a TMC mob that raised “go back” slogan against the saffron leader even as a scuffle between the two sides ensued forcing the State BJP chief to beat a hasty retreat.
His car was given a chase for quite distance, even as the TMC supporters assaulted the local BJP men until the police intervened, locals said.
Commenting on the early morning skirmish State Minister and TMC leader Sujit Basu who is also the local MLA said “TMC was not involved in the incident,” adding “the people who were protesting against some outsiders who were trying to pollute the area chased them (BJP) away.”
Ghosh in his part “thanked” the TMC for “giving me additional publicity. Returning from a morning walk I had settled down in a tea shop sharing tea with some people when some TMC goons attacked me making it news. I thank them for giving me this publicity as they do on every occasion.”
Meanwhile in a similar incident a BJP MLA from Bongaon was attacked by the TMC workers giving him some minor injuries, sources said adding his car was also damaged in the attack.
