The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a decision to cancel 9.5 acres of APIIC land allotted to multinational Lulu group located on the prime Ramakrishna Beach area and another large parcel of 498.3 acres allotted to a close relative of actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna on the beach road.
The Left parties, which have been agitating against the allotment of huge lands to private and multinational agencies, welcomed the decision of the Government.
City president of CPI(M) Dr B Ganga Rao said the land allotted to Lulu group should be used exclusively for parking as the number of tourists visiting beach has increased manifold in the recent times.
Similarly, he demanded cancellation of lands given to Novatel management headed Varun group on beach road and prime land given to Filmnagar Club and Reliance group at Rushikonda.
Earlier, several environmentalists objected the location of Lulu Hyper Market at the red ravines of RK Beach in APIIC lands.
Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu went all the way to Kochi to the Lulu promoter Mohammed Yusuf Ali and invited him to open the hyper mall in Visakhapatnam. On February 24, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone at RK Beach site in the presence of Yusuf Ali, Chandrababu Naidu and a host of Ministers. Naidu said the hyper market will create 5,000 jobs with an average salary of Rs 10,000 to each.
