At one side when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said the proposed amendments in electricity act is "anti-people", the BJP Delhi unit Chief Manoj Tiwari said the AAP Government has joined hand with private companies.
"The Centre is trying to bring an Ordinance for withdrawal of excessive meter load surcharge," he said, adding, "the Union Government provides electricity to all States but often the States like in the present case of Delhi impose excessive surcharges and make power costly for the people.”
"In this situation under the constitutional framework the Centre has all the power to bring an Ordinance to reduce the power tariff. It is a public interest effort and there is no misuse of power in it," he added.
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta also said the Central Government wants to bring reforms in power sectors by making a law after consultation with State Governments.
"If CM Kejriwal was so concerned about the people of Delhi, he should not have raised the electricity bills for the people of Delhi in the name of capacity charge, energy charge, power purchase adjustment charge, pension trust charge etc," he said, adding, "By leavying these charges, Kejriwal has imposed heavy financial burden on the common man who consumes minimal power.”
“Similarly, farmers of Delhi, shopkeepers, factory owners are also very angry over the huge increase made by the Delhi Government in their electricity bills. When he was raising this issue in the last Assembly session, the Government was running away from discussing the same," said the BJP leader.
