Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday that the killing of a multi-national company executive by a policeman in Gomti Nagar was not an encounter and the Government would recommend a CBI probe if required.
The Government has ordered a probe into the incident by Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Lucknow zone IG.
The MNC executive, Vivek Tiwari, was shot by a police constable on patrol duty early Saturday morning after he allegedly refused to stop his car for checking in the posh Gomti Nagar Extension area.
“The Lucknow incident is not an encounter. We would get the incident investigated. The accused have been arrested and terminated from service. If needed, we will recommend a CBI probe into the incident,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
Two constables, identified as Prashant Chaudhary and Sundeep, were arrested on Saturday morning in connection with the crime.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also assured action against the guilty.
“Investigation is underway. If an innocent person has been killed by the police, action will be taken against those found guilty,” Maurya said here on Saturday.
The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s statements came after the family of the deceased, Vivek Tiwari, demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
“Was he a terrorist that police shot at him? We chose Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as our representative and want him to take cognisance of the incident. We also demand an unbiased CBI inquiry,” Vivek’s brother-in-law Vishnu Shukla said.
