The Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power —DDL), one of the major power Discoms in the national Capital which supplies electricity to around 70 lakh consumers in the North and Northwest Delhi on Saturday claimed that the Discom had suffered a huge loss of nearly Rs 150 crore in a year due to power theft in some of its distribution areas such as Narela and Bawana.

"Majority of Tata Power-DDL's consumers are proactive in terms of taking registered electricity connections and regular payment of electricity bills. However, every task has its own set of challenges. Here, the challenge has been huge AT&C losses in the villages of Narela and Bawana.

Nuisance by local strongmen, attacks and hindrances to enforcement raids are some of the major emerging reasons for rampant electricity thefts in these areas.

THE power theft is in leading to annual revenue loss of over Rs 150 crores from Narela and Bawana was reported in 2017-18," said TPDDL CEO Sanjay Banga.

According the information shared by the TPDDL, the discom has faced an aggregate technical and commercial losses range between 50 per cent and 60 per cent, against the overall figure of 8.4 per cent, in 24 villages in Narela and Bawana areas in a year.

Banga further said "We are consistently working towards reduction of AT&C losses in theft prone areas for the benefit of law abiding consumers.

We believe that our consumers must receive quality service and at the same time unscrupulous consumers need to be exposed to bring down losses, in order to keep the tariffs low for the honest consumers."
