A tigress was found dead in the Sarpduli range of the Corbett national park here on Sunday. Considering the injury marks on her body, it is believed that the tigress died of infighting with another big cat, informed the Corbett deputy director Amit Verma.
He further informed that forest guard Ashok Dhyani was on patrol in the morning when he spotted the body of a tigress in Dhulva east block of Sarpduli range of Corbett. The department officials were informed about this after which a post mortem examination was conducted. After the post mortem examination, the body of the tigress was destroyed by fire in front of department officials and other witnesses. According to the Corbett deputy director, the tigress is believed to have been aged about five years. At the time when her body was discovered, all the body parts, teeth and claws of the big cat were found to be intact.
The body is believed to have been two to three days old. The viscera of the tigress was extracted and will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India for forensic examination, added Verma.
