Discrimination on the basis of ‘caste’ should not be done and this is purely imparting of divisions of gullible minds which should not be done, said convener of Samanya, Pichhada, Alpsankhyak Karmachari Sangh (SAPAKS) Hl Trivedi on the issue of providing laptop to student based on the scores.
Trivedi said that if the student is financially incapable support should be given but not on the basis of ‘Caste’ and this is not mentioned in the constitution and is done arbitrarily by the government.
At the level of school all are provided with the same education and even after that discrimination on the basis of ‘caste’ providing encouragement to students of specific ‘Caste’ will demoralize and strengthen the feeling of division among those who have scored better with devotion and dedication and have only not be chosen because to belong to specific ‘Caste’ he added.
The whole issue snowballed on May 21 during a Career Counseling event ‘Chhoo lo Aasman’ after Vicky Sharma of Class XII of Naveen Government School questioned Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan regarding providing of laptop to student with 77 per cent but he was not provided even after he scored 80 per cent due to criteria set by government based on ‘Caste’.
later, ‘SAPAKS’ facilitated the student by providing laptop on May 28 at his house.
The student Vicky said that in his school around 8-10 students were not qualified for the laptop even after scoring far better marks because of the ‘caste’ clause in the scheme.
He said that the students have been taught by teachers without any discrimination but criteria of ‘Caste’ by Mamaji (CM Chouhan) in Medhavi Chhatra Protshan Yojana creates rift between the students which should not be done.
Vicky was happy after getting laptop but maintained the integrity by not providing the name of the student who scored 77 per cent and became eligible for the laptop.
