Sumitra Jena new Mahila Cong chief

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday appointed Sumitra Jena as the new president of the Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress. Jena will succeed Er Sasmita Behera.

According to a All India Congress Committee (AICC) release, former Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai has been appointed as the chairperson of the Scheduled Caste Cell of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) replacing Krushna Chandra Sagaria. Sagaria, a sitting MLA from Koraput, has been appointed as general secretary of the OPCC.

This apart, senior Congress leader Jagannath Patnaik has been appointed as the member of the OPCC Executive Committee, the release said. Sumitra Jena’s father Jayakrushna Mohanty was an MLA from Pipili constituency.

Jena said she would take all efforts to strengthen Pradesh Mahila Congress and make the failures of the BJD and BJP Governments reach the people at grassroots level.
