Additional Sessions Judge (Special) Ajanta Sadangi on Tuesday found guilty the secretary and caretaker of a Bhograi-based child care unit (CCI) Samaj Bikash Parishad of sexually assaulting a minor inmate of the stay home. The court sentenced Parishad’s secretary Durga Prasad Jena (62) and caretaker Namita Tripathy (42) to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and pay fine of Rs 15,000 by the court.

The incident came to light in October 2015 after the victim alleged that she was sexually assaulted repeatedly by Jena and Tripathy abetted him in the crime. Court pronounced judgment after scrutiny of 21 documents and crossing examining 19 witnesses. Case was marked as ‘Red Flag’ by Crime Branch.

The incident had triggered a widespread resentment against the organisation. After the incident came to light on October 8, 2015, the CCI had encountered the wrath of a furious mob. The mob after ransacking the distress home also set ablaze some of properties when they didn’t find the secretary.

Secretary son Bipab and caretaker Tripathy were arrested. Prime accused was apprehended after two days on October 11, 2015. The agitators had alleged that the local police helped the accused to abscond.
