The district police has decided elaborate security arrangements in view of New Year revelry in and around the city.
The places where the additional police deployment will be made are Jubilee Park and Dimna Lake area. Apart from these two main spots, police deployment will also be made at Sir Dorabji Tata Park near Keenan Stadium, Bhatia Park in Kadma, Hudco lake and Ghorabandha Theme Park, both in Telco.
Senior superintendent of police, Anoop Birtharay said that instructions have already been given to the concerned police stations.
"Like in past this year too we want to ensure safety for the people. We have always provided armed police men for the security of the places like Dimna Lake, Jubilee Park and other parks as well as the places of attractions," he said.
Beside the police men, women cops will also be deployed in the picnic spots. He pointed out the policing at the picnic spots will be monitored continuously by deputy superintendent of police of the concerned areas.
He said apart from the deployment of the additional police forces, triple-riding, drunk driving and use of pressure horns by the bike riders will be prohibited during New Year revelry.
He said traffic police cops and members of Quick Response Team (QRT) which is comprised of guards of private security company Panther Security and the police men will remain mobile to ensure streets are free from anti-social elements.
Revealing about the security arrangement, deputy superintendent of police (composite control room) Sudhir Kumar said that they would keep a close watch on the drunk driving at the roads as well as in the picnic spots and parks.
"We will ensure random checking of drunk driving with breath inhaler equipment for alcohol test. This is aimed at preventing the people, especially the youngsters from causing nuisance under the influence of alcohol," Kumar pointed out.
The DSP (CCR) said they would set up special checking posts at 15 places from 6 pm on Monday till 2 am on Tuesday, during which they will act against drunk driving.
"The police constables, including lady cops as well as plain-cloth policemen have been deployed in the Jubilee Park and also in the adjoining Tata Steel Zoological Garden where maximum number people use to come. The cops kept on moving around in their respective areas to ensure the crime like molestation and chain-snatching is not taking place," said Kumar.
Kumar stated that at Jubilee Park and Dimna 100 of static forces will be deployed at each of these spots from 9 am on both the year end as well as on new year.
He said the drone cameras will be used for surveillance at Dimna and Jubilee park where a huge crowd of picnickers tend to assemble on both these days.
