In a major relief to former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi ahead of Assembly polls in the State, the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the Chhattisgarh High Court’s decision on his caste.
Counsellor for Jogi in the Supreme Court, Rahul Tyagi informed The Pioneer that the Chhattisgarh High Court had earlier ruled that the decision of High Power Committee about cancellation of Jogi’s caste certificate was wrong.
It had further ordered the State government to constitute a new High Power Committee on deciding about Jogi’s caste. Statements and claims of Jogi should also be incorporated in it, the court had ruled, he said.
Against the High Court decision about constituting a new High Power Committee and nullifying the cancellation of caste certificate, social worker Sant Kumar Netam had approached the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court during hearing on the case on Friday had upheld the decision of Chhattisgarh High Court and had ruled that decision about cancellation of caste certificate of Jogi was wrong, Tyagi said.
