SAD urges SEC to convene all-party meeting

Wednesday, 31 January 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday urged the Punjab State Election Commission to convene an all-party meeting to listen to the suggestions and grievances of the political parties before ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls.

SAD spokesman and former Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema has sent a written request to the Commissioner highlighting the shortcomings in the recently-held civic polls when notification was done without preparing voter lists.

Cheema appealed to the Commission to ensure that all officers, who are competent to issue NOCs, must be available in their offices to all the nominees and should not sit at the houses of ruling party MlAs.

Similarly, at the time of filing of nominations, if there is any deficiency in the papers, it should be pointed out in writing to the nominees to avoid any dispute later on. Cheema also wanted that all polling booths should be monitored through videography and keeping in view the large scale booth capturing and misuse of government machinery in the recently held elections, central forces are must for free and fair elections.
