A roadmap has been prepared in Madhya Pradesh to double the income of farmers in five years. Work is being undertaken at a fast pace in various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fish Farming, Forestry, Irrigation Expansion, Sericulture, Cottage and Village Industries. The district-level roadmap is also ready and the village-level roadmap is underway. Agriculture production in the year 2016-17 has increased to 5.44 crore metric tonne with priority being given to agriculture sector in the state. Foodgrain production has increased by 207 per cent. The total foodgrain production would be 1.43 crore metric tonne in the year 2004-05 which has increased to 4.39 crore metric tonne in the year 2016-17. Farmers have been provided special facilities to increase pulses and oilseeds production in state as a result of which production of pulses has increased up to 136 per cent in the last one decade. The production of pulses which would be just 33.51 lakh metric tonne in the year 2004-05, has now increased to 79.23 lakh metric tonne in the year 2016-17. Record rise has been recorded in the production of oilseeds in Madhya Pradesh. The production of oilseeds which was hardly 49.08 lakh metric tonne in the years 2004-05, has now increased to 87.35 lakh metric tonne in the year 2016-17 in Madhya Pradesh which amounts to a 78 per cent rise.
Around 57 lakh hectare agriculture sector area has increased in the last 12 years in the state. Agriculture area of Madhya Pradesh has increased to 2.49 lakh hectare in the year 2016-17. The average Agriculture Growth Rate of Madhya Pradesh in the last 4 years has been more than 18 per cent.
Madhya Pradesh is the first state to have been achieved this growth. Due to these reasons, Madhya Pradesh has been bagging the Krishi Karman Award for 5 years consecutively in the field of agriculture production.
