Friday, 31 August 2018 | PNS | PURI

In protest against attack on a lawyer in a police station on Tuesday in Cuttack, the Puri Bar Association observed cease-work that affected judicial activities and administrative works here on Thursday.

The lawyers’ body demanded action against the policemen involved in the assault on the lawyer. Protesting over physical humiliations repeatedly on them and their unsafe conditions in the State, the lawyers urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to interfere by which the culprit is punished.

“We have demanded stringent actions against the police personnel, who had attacked our lawyer.

We will keep continuing our pen-down agitation until our general body sits and takes a decision,” said Puri Bar Association general secretary Bibhuti Tripathy.

He informed that after a meeting of the High Court Bar Council in Cuttack, the general body in Puri decided to continue the agitation.

The general body would again meet on Monday and decide further course of actions, said Tripathy to The Pioneer.  “lawyers in the State feel unsafe today. Overpowering of police has increased maximum,” said senior lawyer Ajit Kumar Mishra.
