To check rampant illegal sale of spurious milk and other milk products, Punjab Government’s three major departments — Health and Family Welfare, Cooperation, and Dairy Development Departments — have decided to launch joint crackdown operation
The three Departments have agreed to work in unison to check the sale of spurious milk and other milk products, said the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra, after the decision was taken on Wednesday in a high-level meeting held under his leadership, and attended by Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Dairy Development Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
Mohindra said that as decided in the meeting, district level teams would be constituted comprising officers of Health, Cooperation and Dairy Development Departments to conduct surprise raids on the individual vendors selling milk, milk collection centers and other entities who produce and sell milk products.
He said that milk samples would be taken and tested on the spot and strict punitive action as per the Provisions of Food Safety Act would be taken. If need be, FIR would also be registered on the spot against the offenders, and a Police Officer would also accompany the teams during surprise raids, he said.
The Minister said that to check the samples of milk and milk products, testing vans of Dairy Development and Health Departments would immediately be rushed to the particular location.
