Public sector banks in Jharkhand remained closed on Wednesday as their employees went on a two-day strike protesting against merely 2 per cent hike in wages as against 15 per cent last year. Unions of different banks claimed that the strike was successful as none of the branches of any of the public sector banks opened on Wednesday.
“This s really historical as it if for the first time that all banks remained closed in Jharkhand as around 25000 officers and employees went on strike against the offer made by Indian Banks' Association (IBA) to give a hike of only 2 per cent as against 15 per cent last time,” said President of All India Oriental Bank Officers Association, Regional Committee RB Giri. Hike of 2 per cent in 5 years is not justified in any case and if the IBA did not agreed to their demand, they will take the battle till their demands are met, he added.
