President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday arrived here to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the MCM DAV College for Women to be held on Wednesday.
This is President Kovind's maiden visit to the Union Territory after assuming office last year. He arrived here this afternoon, officials said, adding that he is staying at the Punjab Raj Bhawan.
Kovind, who is accompanied by his wife, was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the airport here.
He was welcomed by Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Governors V P Singh Badnore, Kaptan Singh Solanki and Acharya Dev Vrat, besides Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar and Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal among others.
Punjab and Haryana chief ministers are among the dignitaries who have been invited for the dinner at the Raj Bhavan tonight, the officials said, adding chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court is among the dignitaries who have been invited for the breakfast on Wednesday.
