Govindpura police have nabbed six snake smugglers and recovered rare two-headed ‘Sand Boa’ snake worth Rs 10 lakh from their possession on Monday.
Police said that two persons who were trying to sell ‘Sand Boa’ snake.
Four others who were trying to buy the snake near Security lines area were detained late in the night on Monday.
The accused were arrested after police team swung into action on the receipt of the information of persons in the area moving suspiciously And when the team reached the spot accused tried to escape but were nabbed.
The nabbed persons who brought Sand Boa snake were identified as Jagdish Jathav (35) and Omprakash Meena (40) of Sehore.
The buyers who came to buy the snake were identified Sandeep Kurre (26) of Baghsewania, Harish Kurre (27) of Awadhpuri, Ravi Naamdev (28) of Habibganj and Arif Shah (20) of Gandhi Nagar.
The crime record and involvement in smuggling of ‘Sand Boa’ by the accused would be investigated.
The officials of forest department were informed after the accused were nabbed were handed over to the department with seized sand boa snake for further investigation.
The police have started investigation into the matter of the involvement of accused in smuggling of ‘Sand Boa’ snakes in the past.
After the preliminary investigation the police have registered a case under sections 9, 39, 48 A and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.
The massive amount which a ‘Sand Boa’ could fetch attracts the smugglers to smuggle.
