The Udham Singh Nagar police arrested two persons accused of murdering a driver and stealing a car after an encounter on Wednesday night. The police recovered country made firearms from the two accused.
The Superintendent of Police (crime) Kamlesh Upadhyay informed that the police had received a tip off about murder and theft accused persons attempting to sneak away into Nepal. Based on this information, a police team began checking vehicles at Puranpur turn in Jhankaiya area on Wednesday night. The police team spotted two persons coming towards them in an Innova car.
On seeing the police, the duo reportedly started firing on them. The police team managed to arrest the two after the encounter.
Upadhyay informed that Pantnagar resident Rajneesh’s Innova car had been hired on November 2.
A few days later when the car owner was unable to contact the driver Fahim, he contacted the police. Later the body of an unidentified youth was discovered at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh on November 11. The Udham Singh Nagar police went to Unnao along with Fahim’s family members who identified his body.
The two men accused of murdering him and stealing the vehicle have been identified as Ravindra from Gurdaspur district of Punjab and Jagjit Singh from Gularbhoj area of Udham Singh Nagar district.
The police recovered two country-made firearms and live rounds from the two after they were arrested.
According to the police, during questioning, they have admitted to the murder of the driver and theft of the vehicle.
