Pb human rights commission seeks report on cop beating woman

Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) on Thursday sought separate reports from the state Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in an incident regarding a cop, caught on camera, beating up an elderly woman.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the matter, the Commission, comprising of PSHRC chairperson Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari, member Justice Ashutosh Mohunta and member Avinash Kaur, called for report from the Punjab Government in the Home Department through the Additional

Chief Secretary and through Bathinda SSP by the next date, that id October 14, 2018.

The Commission observed that the reports revealed that a Punjab Police cop repeatedly slapped an elderly woman and pulled her to the ground when the police resorted to use of force on the workers of the brick  kiln at Sukhanand village on Sunday, demanding the release of their wages.
