Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad on Tuesday directed the district Collectors and Superintendents of Police to reduce road accidents and the mishap-related death rates in their respective districts.
Reviewing the road safety measures at the district level through videoconferencing, Padhi directed for special measures in Sundargarh, Keonjhar , Angul, Cuttack, Ganjam , Jajpur ,Sambalpur and Balangir districts where road mishap related death rates are high in the State.
The Chief Secretary ordered the RTOs to immediately cancel the driving licences of drivers, who are caught for negligent driving during checking by police. He also urged for creating massive awareness on traffic rules by involving NGOs and people of different strata of society.
It was also decided in the meeting to put in place an online road mishap management system within four months in which citizens also can directly participate in it. Among others, Additional Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, DGP RP Sharma, Commerce and Transport Secretary G Srinivas and Transport Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi were present.
