In yet another incident of miscreants targeting senior citizens, an elderly woman was found murdered by unidentified miscreants at her house at Ganguari near Pahala on the city outskirts on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Manorama Panda.
Sources said Manorama was staying alone in her home. Some unidentified miscreants had broken into her house on Wednesday night and looted cash and gold ornaments. It is suspected that miscreants had killed the elderly woman.
The incident came to the fore in the morning when the deceased’s daughter, who used to live in the same locality, found her mother lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed police about it.
“When my mother didn’t pick up the phone this morning, I went to her house and knocked on the door only to find it locked from inside. When there was no response, we broke open the door and found her body was lying in pool of blood,” the daughter of the deceased said to reporters.
Preliminary investigation showed the woman was murdered, but the cause behind it was yet to be ascertained, police said.
