After hosting two international mega tournaments, Asian Athletics Championship and World Men’s Hockey league, successfully and preparing for the Hockey World Cup to be held in November, the State Government is now planning to organise a Davis Cup in future.
Speaking at the inauguration of International Tennis Federation (ITF) Tournament for Men’s events at the Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex here on Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the State Government can host a Davis Cup in future.
Chief Secretary AP Padhi, Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) President and Home ACS Asit Tripathy, OTA Secretary Madhu Sudan Padhi and Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Vishal Dev were present.
The ITF opted to come here after seeing excellent infrastructure and hospitality in the State.

Patnaik exhorted that the Sports and Youth Affairs Department and the OTA work in tandem to host more such prestigious events in future.
In his address, Hironmoy Chatterjee, Secretary General, All India Tennis Association expressed his satisfaction over available infrastructure at Kalkinga Stadium for World Class Tennis events.
The event carries total prize money of $ 15,000 and will be spread over the entire week, with the final scheduled on Saturday, 3 March, 2018.
