Strong resentment is brewing among the primary teachers of the State as the declaration for restructuring of the primary teacher cadre by the Minster in the presence of the Chief Minister on October 8, 2018 has not been executed yet.
Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (OPTA) (Under New Pension Scheme) president Brahmananda Maharana addressing a Press meet here on Sunday alleged that the negligence of the Government towards the primary teachers is destroying the primary education system.
Mentioning that the Government is also not making the Right to Education Act stringent, Maharana said that even if in the Right to Education Act it is mentioned that the teachers should not be involved nonteaching activities, the Government is forcing them to do such activities which is hampering the education system.
The association also demanded filling up of the different vacant posts, publishing the restructure of the cadre at the earliest, hike in the salary of the junior teachers by 15 per cent and 10 per cent each year and abolition of the new pension scheme.
Maharana threatened that if the demands are not fulfilled before the next Assembly session, all primary teachers would resort to agitation. Among others, OPTA general secretary Bhibhu Prasad Sahu, advisor Gajendra Majhi, treasurer Gopal Sen and working president Krushna Chandra Behera were present.
