The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Radha Mohan Singh has approved proposals amounting to Rs 2,600 crore in the cooperative and sugar sectors for Uttarakhand. This includes Rs 200 crore for reorganisation of sugar mills in the State. The Union Minister further approved Rs 1,500 crore for Uttarakhand in the next three years for developing it as an organic State. These approvals were communicated when the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met the Union Minister in the national Capital on Tuesday.
According to Govt sources, the Union Minister lauded functioning of the State Govt. He said that considering the budget allocated in 2017-18 the State Government’s expenditure has been satisfactory. Works are being undertaken on various schemes to meet the target of doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022. The Uttarakhand state is also taking some appreciable steps towards meeting this target. The state government is also making strides towards development of the state into an organic farming state. The Centre will provide all possible assistance to the state, the union minister assured.
Various issues related to the state were discussed between the union minister and the chief minister during their meeting. The CM provided detailed information to Singh about the various schemes started by the State Government for meeting the target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022. Along with traditional farming practices, the utilisation of modern techniques will help in doubling the income of farmers in the State. He also thanked the Union Min for approval to proposals worth Rs 2,600 andRs 1,500 for cooperative sector and organic state development respectively. The cooperative sector in U’khand will be strengthened following approval to these proposals, added Rawat.
It is pertinent to mention here that during his visit to Kedarnath in 2017, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that Uttarakhand would be developed into an organic state. Since then, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and State Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal had been undertaking efforts to facilitate execution of the prime minister’s announcement. As a result, the Union Agriculture minister approved the demand sent by the state to the government of India for 10K additional clusters for organic farming. Further, approval was also granted to the demand made by the state for additional farm machinery banks in order to tackle the problem of human labour and cattle experienced in agriculture in U’khand.
