Maoists torch dozen vehicles, kendu leaf centres

Suspected CPI (Maoist) rebels burnt about a dozen vehicles of the road construction company and set afire four kendu leaf centres in Ramkunda and Bhandaria police station area under the district here on Tuesday. The Maoists are also said to have beaten up nearly a dozen people.

According to information, on Tuesday night, at around 10 pm, around 50 Maoist guerrillas reached Ramkanda-Bhandariya Road in Rado village and burnt four vehicles including a loader, one water tanker and hywa of road Construction Company. Naxals also looted mobile phones from drivers during the incident.

In another incident Naxals also set afire four bidi leaf centres at Ramkunda-Bhandariya forest area.

Along with this, about 200 sacks of beedi leaf on these four centers were burned to ashes. After two hours of rioting in the village  Naxals escaped.  In third incident zonal commander Mrityunjay alongwith 50 members of his squad reached Rodo village of Bhandariya police station area, and set afire Kendu leaves kept in dilapidated building in school.

later Naxals reached at Birajpur village where they also set on fire kendu leaves in a centre.  The villagers too got gathered after listening to the voice. Naxals torched around 120 sacks of kendu leaves saying that they were not paid the levy at Birajpur village. On Wednesday morning, Garhwa SP Sivani Tiwari, ASP Sadan Kumar, Ranka police station in-charge Jitendra Kumar, Ramkanda police station in-charge reached the spot and questioned the drivers. They examined the torched bidi leaves centers.

The SP said that the Naxalites had gone on the back foot and had done the incident for the purpose of establishing their domination. The SP has denied the incident of assault to people. She said that she himself had gone on the PO and nobody complained about the assault.
