One of the most pioneering inspirations adopted by Ranchi District Administration – ‘liter of light’ is brightening the lives of people here especially those residing in the interior pockets. With no additional prerequisites, hefty investment on gadgets or wait for any government scheme to roll out for lighting up the houses, this eco-friendly low cost light tube is slowly gaining acceptance among the public.
Interestingly, with discarded plastic bottles and water including a few basic tools, one could light up their houses as well as their lives. These ‘Solar Bottles’ have been designed by students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) undergoing internship under the guidance of Ranchi district administration.
According to the sources, locally sourced materials like plastic bottles, solar panel, rechargeable battery including PVC pipes have been used for making ‘Solar Bottles’. Notably, a revolution rather than just a concept had gained PM Narendra Modi’s applaud during his visit to Ranchi on May 15. Ranchi DC, Rai Mahimapat Ray had demonstrated the ‘Solar Bottle’ version before PM during the special review meeting of Aspirational Districts.
As per an official of district administration, after brightening up the PM’s frame of mind, the idea was first tried and tested at Primitive Tribal Group (PTR) households. As a part of experimental process, over 20 PTR houses at Chanho block falling under the jurisdiction of Ranchi district were the one who benefitted out of this ambitious project. Tapping the renewable energy –Sunlight, the ‘Solar Bottles’ works on the concept of refraction formula, delivering luminosity similar to a 40-60 Watt luminescent bulb.
Endorsing the concept of ‘clean energy, green energy’, the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to encourage ‘Solar bottles’ use. Designed merely in 36 hours by the interns, these special lamps are being distributed among the rural populace in a quite a good number.
Recently during ‘Vikas Mela’ organized at Baruhatu Village, Bundu as many as 60 pieces of ‘Solar Bottles’ were distributed. “The collective efforts are slowly gaining impetus. Brainstorming is being done about its mass production,” said, Ranchi DC. Furthermore, in an attempt to popularize it use among the masses, the cost effective ‘liter of light – 2.0’ will be sold out through Pragya Kendras. Also, Self Help Groups will be trained in manufacturing the ‘Solar Bottles’ further expanding its reach. In addition, the district administration officials are planning to rope in a few SHGs who will promote its utility in the days to come.
