lalu admitted to RIMS after surrender at CBI court

RJD supremo lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday surrendered before the CBI court in view of the Jharkhand High Court order, which had directed him to surrender before the lower court in connection with fodder scam cases on or before August 30.

lalu was convicted in three fodder scam cases in the recent months and sent to jail. He was  on provisional bail since May 11 on health grounds. The HC  on August 24 declined to extend the provisional bail period any further.

lalu’s lawyer Anant Kumar informed that his client surrendered before additional judicial commissioner SS Prasad in connection with his conviction in Chaibasa fodder scam case. lalu has been sentenced to five years in jail and fined five lakhs rupees under various sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption act in the case.

The judge ordered for sending lalu to Birsa Munda Central jail under judicial custody. He also attached the HC order for proper action.

Notably, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh of Jharkhand HC had in his order on lalu’s provisional bail stated that medical management and monitoring of lalu could be done at RIMS under the close supervision of doctors.

Before leaving the court of SS Prasad, lalu, who had remained silent throughout the court proceeding, rose up with folded hands and spoke to the judge about his poor health.

lalu also surrendered before the CBI court in connection with the Fodder scam cases related fraudulent withdrawals from Dumka and Deoghar treasuries.

lalu’s lawyer Prabhat Kumar informed the courts issued similar orders regarding him.

During the proceeding lalu secured a surrender certificate from the court which he would present before a court in Delhi in connection with a cases filed by enforcement directorate against him. The court had issued summon to lalu asking him to appear on Friday.

Earlier lalu arrived at the court at around 11 am and spoke briefly to media saying that he has faith in the judiciary. “I have come to surrender before court after the direction of High Court. However I am still not well at present,” he said.

It may be stated here that HC had granted provisional bail to lalu on medical grounds on May 11 May 2018 and was given five extensions on various grounds.

Soon after surrendering in court lalu was shifted to super specialty ward of RIMS for medical examination. Sources said that lalu’s wound caused during an operation has not healed and it has got puss. A valve of his heart has also hardened. Besides, he suffers from several other ailments including diabetes.
