Jam@streets makes Sunday a fun day

After a break of four months Jam@Street was back in action. From badminton court, roll ball, basketball, boxing, bicycle stunt and table tennis, people enjoyed, dance performance, talent shows and dancing.

Organised at the 800 metre stretch of Bistupur Main road from the Bistupur police station to the traffic signal, Jam@streets kicked off at 5:30 am and continued till 9 am. It was attended by Tata Steel vice-president (corporate services) Sunil Bhaskaran; Jusco managing director Ashish Mathur and other Tata Steel and Jusco officials. Jusco used the event to spread awareness about dengue.

“It is an innovative way we want to instill a sense of belonging to the citizens here. They come out every Sunday spend time with their friends and family on the streets. Jam@Streets Day is akin to a street festival with goodies which can be indulged in by the whole family. It will have sporting events like roller skating, badminton, basketball, yoga, cycling, aerobics, golf and much more. Together with games, there will be rock bands adding to the Sunday euphoria with selfie corner, street painting, magic show, dandiya,” said an official.

In association with Jamshedpur Hoteliers’ Association several food stalls offering a variety of morning delights including dosas, golgappas, upma, idli, samosa, kachori sabzee, health drinks and fruits, sandwiches, cakes, was offered on the streets.

Vehicular movement from 6.00 am to 10.00 am was restricted on Main Road, Bistupur on Sunday. People wanting to go to railway station took Kharkhai link Road to reach Kharkhai Bridge and then to Voltas roundabout.

From checking blood pressure, weight, diabetes, it was a voluntary service where people also gave blood samples for a CDC (complete blood count) test. The Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala spread awareness about the benefits of ayurveda. There were medicine shops which gave discounts on medicines.

This apart yoga was  also taught as a part of promoting healthy habits.
