Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Sunday said the State Government’s new sports policy encouraged the youth of the State towards sports as it provides cashprize and jobs to the promising players.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of ‘International Day for University Sports in India’ organised at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, he said Haryana has emerged as the hub of sports because of this new sports policy.
The chief minister said sports persons of the state have won laurels for the country as well as state by winning medals in sports competitions at national and international level. On this occasion, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of three projects to the tune of Rs 15 crore, to enhance the sports and human resource development facilities at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
While extending New Year greetings to the people and sports persons, wished for the prosperity of the youth of India by honing their skills in sports and other areas. He said that the youth power of India has the ability to lead the world in 21st century, as the creative and positive mindset of youth alongwith sports, education and skill development play a decisive role towards society and nation building.
Encouraging the youth in the field of sports, the present State Government has awarded Rs 242 crore as cash prize to 8363 outstanding sports persons during the last four years. As many as 17 sportspersons of the state have been appointed as coach. Soon 45 more sportspersons would be appointed as coach. To encourage the youth of rural areas towards sports, Vyayamshalas are being set up in two acres in the villages of the state.
Manohar Lal said Saksham Yuva scheme has been implemented for the educated youth, under which a monthly allowance of Rs 9000 is being provided to the youth alongwith 100 hours of work. Around 45,000 youth of the state have been benefitted under this scheme.
The Chief Minister also felicitated the eminent sportspersons who were present on the occasion of ‘International Day for University Sports in India’ at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak including Olympian hockey player Ashok Dhyan Chand, Jitender Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Omveer, Dharmender Dalal, Sanjay Singh, Manjeet Chillar, Pritam Thakran, Mamta Kharab, Sumita Malhan, Ram Mehar Singh and Amit Panghal.
He also laid the foundation stone of AstroTurf Hockey Field in the presence of Olympian Ashok Dhyan Chand, the son of Major Dhyan Chand.
He also laid the foundation stone of MDU Cricket Pavilion to be constructed at a cost of Rs six crore. Besides this, he also laid the foundation stone of Faculty Development Centre Building to be constructed at a cost of Rs three crore.
