Finally, Haridwar- Roorkee Development Authority has stepped in and sealed the area where flats are being constructed on land under the reported ownership of Nirmal Panchayati Akhada in NIrmala Chawani on Tuesday. Notably, PAC had been summoned a few days ago after the members of the akhada and some builders were found on a collision course over the construction of residential flats on a land the akhada claims to own.
The Akhada members had alleged that in spite of the stay order by the High Court, Haridwar- Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) had not stopped the construction of residential flats on the akhada land.
Speaking of the matter on Tuesday, HRDA secretary Banshidhar Tiwari said, "Following the High Court order, we have sealed two towers and 88 flats in NIrmala Chawani. The seers from Nirmal Panchayati Akhada moved court and we have been asked to submit a report on the issue."
The seers had alleged that despite the sealing of the ongoing construction sites by HRDA in the recent past, the builders had not stopped construction.
Nirmal Akhada owns huge properties in Haridwar aside from several places in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. Some of the lands it owns have been given on rent to be used as hotels and inns. Besides, the akhada possesses thousands of hectares of agricultural lands worth over Rs100 crores as per the estimate of the estate agents.
