Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur on Monday urged the NCC to cooperate in checking drug abuse, afforestation and making the State polythene free. He said efforts would be made to ensure NCC teachers in all the schools and colleges having NCC wing.
Interacting with Additional Director General, NCC Directorate, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Major General R.S. Maan, the Chief Minister said that presently over 23000 NCC cadets were rendering their services in the State.
Thakur said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was giving special thrust on expanding and strengthening the NCC activities in the country. He said presently there were 16 lakh NCC cadets in the country and efforts were being made to increase their number to 19 lakh.
Major General R.S. Maan apprised the Chief Minister about various activities being undertaken by the NCC in the State and also urged the Chief Minister for enhancing the budget for NCC in the State. He said that joint action plan could be prepared for various social activities such as checking of drug abuse and environment conservation which was the thrust area of the State Government.
Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj and other officers of NCC were present on the occasion
