If the meteorologists are to be believed the Holi slated on March 2 might be a rain-drenched Holi. As per the Met department, another western disturbance that is now approaching the western Himalayan region fast might trigger rain in the plains and snow in the hills on Friday-the day the festival of colour would be celebrated.
Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast very light to light rain/snow at isolated places across the state on March 2. A Met official said that another western disturbance is very likely to affect the climate of the Western Himalayan region at least for two days from March 1. If it rains and snows as forecast the maximum temperature might dip by a few notches. Several districts of the state like Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh might record rain/snow on Saturday too while the climate would turn dry by that day in the rest of the State, said Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh on Tuesday.
Dehradun saw a sunny day on Tuesday and the mercury soared up to 28.6 degree Celsius, five notches above the normal. The minimum is also rising proportionately with the advent of the climatic warmth as it settled at 13.7 degree Celsius, four notches above the normal, on the day. The highest maximum temperature of the state 29.6°C was recorded at Ghansali in Tehri district while the lowest minimum temperature 7.4°C was recorded at Matela in Almora district.
As per the weather report sent by the Met department, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 29.0 degree Celsius, four notches above the normal, and 10.0 degree Celsius, one notch above the normal, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 21.4 degree Celsius, seven notches above the normal, and 10.0 degree Celsius, seven notches above the normal. In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 20.8 degree Celsius and 10.8 degree Celsius respectively.
Singh said that the weather forecast for Dehradun for Wedneesday is mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 29 degree Celsius and 13 degree Celsius respectively in the city on the day. The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Wednesday is partly cloudy sky and dry climate.
