A tale of generation gap and changing values was staged through a Hindi play ‘Sukhe Darakht’ at Shaheed Bhavan auditorium, here on Sunday.
The play was a splendid synchronization between the fading values of children and expectations of parents. The play begins with introducing the present situation, but as the circumstances arises and situation strikes the family, the audiences travel to the real life situations of people in old age homes. The play was directed and conceptualized by Vivek Sawrikar.
Play ‘Sukhe Darakht’ is a question for the prevailing society. It narrates the untold story of the situations and scenarios old age people go through. The play follows the story of few elderly people living in old age homes tackling with different situations that led them to live their remaining days of life at an old age home.
It showcased the situations where three elderly are forced by their children to leave the house and go in a old age home, a man’s child, who went to study abroad but, never returned not even on his mother’s funeral. Such situations created on stage put a great impact over the audiences. The audiences not only enjoyed the play but, also were awestruck by the performance.
It is noteworthy that the relationship between parents and children is nothing new to show to the audiences, but the essence of the story is that it is picked up from the real incidents and situation.
The production was entirety mesmerizing, be it in its backdrop or in the virtuosity of the actor's craft is significant of a simplicity which was commendable. The lighting effect was used sensibly that enhanced the moods of the scenes.
