A total of 46 per cent rains which equals to 371 mm of water has brought the main roads in the city to their knees, with most areas besieged with dirty water and exasperating traffic snarls bringing the city traffic to a grinding halt. The most affected roads are the SKV Road, main roads in front of the Railway Station junction and the City Centre roads.
The recent spell of heavy rains that lashed the city has battered the city roads in a severe way, posing great hardships to the pedestrians as well as the motorists.
Water logging has been reported from many places while the heavy torrent submerged most city roads with knee-deep water, pot holes and over seeping drainage water, even in posh areas, like Basant Vihar, City Centre and Gandhi Road areas.
The condition of the Moti Tabela road in front of the Jai Vilas Palace and the Italian Garden has suffered extensive damage due to the rains. This area, being a tourist spot, has heavy traffic and roughly 150 vehicles pass through this road every hour. According to the residents and the shop keepers in the area the road is full of 4-5 inch pot holes and 7 accidents have been reported from here in the past 15 days.
The Income Tax road in the City Centre tells a worse tale. This road was already damaged but after the heavy downpour the conditio n of the road has worsened. According to locals the sight of a biker or scooterist losing balance and falling is an everyday scene.
The roads in front of the Railway Station and SKV were submerged during the rains, and the receding water has left behind alarming craters, giving a scary ride to motorists.
Most of the residents, especially the motorists, while venting their anger said that the Municipal Corporation is to be squarely blamed for this chaotic mess. Officials at the civic body, while admitting to the chaos, however said that in the limited resources they have, they have been doing their best to ensure that there is no extensive traffic jams or water-logging.
