In a case of alleged peculation of 4809 acres of Government land in Bazpur Tehsil of Udham Singh Nagar, the High Court of Uttarakhand has sought sought replies from the Revenue secretary, Kumaon commissioner and Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate within four weeks. The division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Alok Singh has also asked as to how much land is still left on which constructions have not been made.
According to the case details, Bazpur based farmer Sher Singh had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court in which he had stated that at Chakkarpur village 4,809 acres land had been given by the Government to Lala Khushiram on a 90 year lease in 1920. Khushiram died in 1960 and after that, based on the power of attorney, the said land was sub-leased.
The petitioner has stated that after this, the Patwaris in collusion with elements of the land mafia facilitated plotting on this land to peculate the government land. It was also stated that in a probe ordered by the District Magistrate, the Government land in question was found to have been peculated.
However, till now, no action has been taken against those responsible for this crime. Based on this, Sher Singh had filed a public interest litigation in the high court.
Hearing the PIL on Thursday, the division bench sought replies from the Revenue secretary, Kumaon commissioner and Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate.
