The Orissa High Court on Monday issued notice to the State Government asking it to file its counter to a petition which has challenged the recent amnesty scheme announced by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Petitioner Subash Mohapatra in his plea has stated that the Government's move invites contempt of court as a PIl challenging the earlier amnesty scheme of the Government way back in 2015 is still pending disposal in the High Court.
"When a similar scheme announced earlier is sub-judice, how could the Government could come out with another scheme," the petitioner asked.
Adjudicating it, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Vineet Saran issued the notice to the Government asking it to file its counter and fixed the matter to be heard again on August 2.
Notably, after the poor response it got to the scheme launched three years ago, the Government on June 20 this year again initiated the scheme to regularise the buildings constructed in contravention of rules and regulations. The scheme aims at rectifying and regularising the construction made in deviation of the approved plan.
