A few days after ordering a stay on B warrant issued against television news channel chief executive officer Umesh Sharma, the High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police and the investigation officer to appear in person in the court on December 4. The single bench of justice Lok Pal Singh has also questioned as to on what basis was a warrant for Sharma’s arrest sought from the court in Dehradun.
It will be recalled that Dehradun resident Vinay Malik had lodged an FIR on November 2 this year at the Rajpur police station in Dehradun against Sharma, Ashish Aron, Vikram and Jitendra. Malik had alleged that Sharma and three other persons were trying to take possession of his plot of land.
On the other hand, Sharma had averred that the said plot of land belongs to Aron.
The court had also ruled in favour of Aron in 1999. Whereas Aron had earlier secured a stay from the high court, the IO in Dehradun had filed an application in a court in Dehradun a secured a B warrant against Sharma.
The television news channel CEO had challenged the B warrant in the high court. The single bench of justice Lok Pal Singh had ordered a stay on the warrant on November 27.
