An inter-Ministerial committee of the State Government, which was formed to discuss about the demands of “Price, Prestige and Pension” by farmers, held its first meeting at the State Secretariat here on Thursday.
Committee head Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera said the next meeting of the committee would be held at the Krishi Bhawan here on December 7, where members of several farmer organisations and agricultural experts would be invited to give their suggestions.
“Suggestions will be invited from various associations of farmers and agricultural experts to resolve the issue. On the basis of the suggestions, the State Government would take steps accordingly,” Behera said.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had constituted the ministerial committee on November 5 to look into the grievances of thousands of farmers, who were planning to demonstrate in the State Capital to press for their demands.
Food Supplies and Cooperation Minister Surjya Narayan Patro, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Pradeep Maharathy and senior officials of the line departments were also present.
