Govt rolls out urban sanitation policy

In order to expedite steps to be taken to attain complete sanitation in urban areas of the State, the Government has approved Jharkhand State Urban Sanitation policy 2018. The approval came on Thursday during the meeting of the State Cabinet.

Home Secretary SKG Rahate informing about the decision said that policy would bestow desired directions to the competent agencies in setting up goals and missions in achieving sanitation in urban areas.

“The Cabinet has given its assent to Jharkhand State Urban Sanitation policy 2018 which would guide about the works to be taken place for maintaining sanitation in the towns of Jharkhand. The policy has specific goals and mission along with methodologies in the way of attaining sanitation,” said the official.

The whole idea behind the policy is based on a need for holistic effort and multi-dimensional approach attached to economic growth and urbanisation keeping in mind public health, environment and climate change. The policy is also an important component of Swachh Bharat Mission that vows for open defecation free along with scientific solid and liquid waste disposal. Components of manual scavenging eradication, collection, transportation and treatment of sewage, AMRUT and Smart City schemes are inherited.

Also, the Cabinet lifted restriction over releasing money under the MlA Fund without submission of DC bills for the year 2018-19. “The Cabinet approved the proposal which would allow the fund to be sanctioned even when the DC bill is pending against previous releases done. This apart, the fund of Rs 50 lakh earmarked for building toilets under that can be used for other purposes by any MlA if more than 75 villages of his constituency are declared ODF,” said SKG Rahate.

In another important decision, the Cabinet ruled that a committee under the DCs in every district would be resolving issues relating to price of land to be acquired under the provisions of the land Acquisition Act, 2013. The committee would decide over the nature of land and price since land records in the State has not been updated for long.

Additions of castes belonging to Extremely Backward Caste into the list like Sonar with Asthloi, Kumbhkar and Kumhar with Prajapati Kumhar have taken place. “These amendments have been done based on the recommendations of the State Backward Class Commission,” he added.

The Cabinet at the same time given its nod for constructing 15 roads of 295 kilometers length at the cost of Rs 1070 crore. The roads would be connecting district headquarters, States as well as the places of tourist importance.
