Forest dept begins probe into deer death

The forest department started a probe after recovering a dead deer near Mahudi forest in Barkagaon on Wednesday evening. Officials said postmortem had confirmed deer was shot dead claiming that it was a case of poaching.

Sources said deer ran towards the village which was near to the forest area. They said poachers shot the deer but failed to catch it after it started running towards a village. Forest officer Tarun Kumar Singh reached Mahudi forest and started the probe claiming that culprits will not be spared.

However, sources said poaching going on since long in Mahudi forest which is known for presence of large number of deer. They said due to lack of security and proper patrolling by forest department, local villagers killing deer for its meat which has huge demand in the local markets.

Postmortem of deer was performed in sub divisional veterinary hospital yesterday late evening.

local villagers said it was not right that wild animals getting killed by poachers. They demanded immediate check on this practice.
