Five arrested, including a minor, for abducting woman

Wednesday, 31 January 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

Dehradun police arrested five persons, including a minor, on the charge of abducting a woman, hitting a police vehicle and injuring four policemen, including a sub-inspector. The accused have been identified as Rais, savez, Naseem, Azaz, all from Fatehpur in Saharanpur district (Uttar Pradesh). The accused were sent to Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court, police said.

Police said that the accused had abducted a young girl from Raipur and left her at ISBT.  Notably, a young girl had been allegedly forced into a car  by some unidentified on January 13 and had been later left at ISBT. Again on January 23, some unidentified criminals sitting in a car had allegedly made an abortive attempt to abduct  another girl in the Cantt  area. In both the cases, FIRs had been registered against unidentified criminals in the police stations concerned. Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti had directed the police station officers to form teams to investigate the cases. CCTV footages around the incident sites had been reviewed too to identify the criminals. Investigation had revealed that a white coloured car was used by criminals in both the cases, making police to conclude that those responsible for the two abduction cases were the same. Police swung into action after receiving  a tip- off of some criminals moving into Dehradun via Aasharodi in a white car on Monday evening.  The police personnel signalled the car to stop, but they ignored police and started escaping. The car rammed a barricade following which a police car started chasing the white-coloured car. Police said that the criminals sitting in the white coloured car hit the police car which subsequently overturned. Four policemen were injured. The criminals’ car too fell into a roadside drain and they started running towards Bhunowala. With the help of local residents, police arrest the criminals.

Police further said that the registration plate number of the car was fake. Their interrogation revealed that several criminal cases have been registered against them in Saharanpur police station.
